The Sternula AIS 2.0 satellite coverage provides your coastal area with VDE-SAT-based services from our satellite fleet. Sternula transports the data via VDE-SAT to the chosen areas and according to desired repetition rates so you can focus on
the services only.
In combination with the Sternula MMS Routing, your services will also be available via the Internet for the ships that have satellite or mobile network IP connectivity and an MMS Proxy Ship.
VDE-SAT Coverage provides VDES signals to the region you select. These signals contain chosen digital services and deliver them to vessels in a specific area. The signals can be received by all AIS 2.0-enabled ship transceivers. The equipment on board will decide if and how to display the data in accordance with international standards which are under development at IMO, IEC, and RTCM.
The Sternula MMS Router stores your data. When a satellite is above one of our ground stations, the data is uploaded. When a satellite is above the selected coverage area, it transmits your data to the ships. Our satellites visit coverage areas from one to several times per day. The service data is transmitted on one of the VDE-SAT frequencies according to international standards, such that VDES-compatible ship equipment can receive it. Further processing on the ship happens according to RTCM and IEC standards in order to route the service data to the final destination, e.g., a planning station to overlay updated Aids to Navigation information for improved route planning.
