Sternula Completes AIS 2.0 Equipment Installation on NIMASA Vessels
Sternula is pleased to announce the successful installation of our advanced AIS 2.0 equipment on two vessels, Millennium I and Millennium II, operated by the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) in Lagos, Nigeria. With this installation, these ships are now fully equipped for AIS 2.0 communication, setting a new standard in maritime safety and surveillance for the region.
This milestone would not have been possible without the expertise and support of our regional partner, Dormene Donald Nunieh, who worked closely with NIMASA’s crew to ensure a smooth and timely installation. By integrating AIS 2.0, these vessels are now better prepared to support maritime surveillance and enhance navigational safety in Nigerian waters.
AIS, while effective, is susceptible to vulnerabilities such as spoofing attacks that can compromise vessel security. The addition of VDES (AIS 2.0) strengthens the integrity of maritime communications, providing enhanced resilience against such risks. This installation is a significant demonstration of the urgent need for AIS 2.0 in global maritime operations, highlighting how advanced technologies can mitigate emerging security challenges.
Sternula looks forward to continuing its collaboration with NIMASA and other regional partners to elevate maritime communication standards and enhance safety for vessels worldwide.
