End-to-end demonstration of Navigational Warnings
through AIS 2.0
On Day 2 of the DTEC4 conference at IALA headquarters in Paris, we celebrated the first official version of the MMS (Maritime Messaging Service) specification released by RTCM – Radio Technical Commission for Maritime Services. An end-to-end demonstration of navigational warnings issued by the Danish Emergency Management Agency was given. The demo featured a full setup of AIS 2.0, including VDES and MMS nodes on the ship and shore sides, and using S-100 data formats.
This breakthrough marks a significant step toward a more connected and efficient maritime industry. With AIS 2.0, we are paving the way for safer, more reliable maritime communication.

Lars Moltsen, CEO of Sternula, said: This is a very important milestone, where all the AIS 2.0 building blocks were in place at the same time, each based on a global standard. AIS 2.0 ensures that critical information from authorities can be delivered to ships and trusted. Without trusted data, there will be no autonomous shipping, and no route optimization, but more and more spoofing, as experienced by the maritime industry already today. We are very excited about the collaboration with partners in IALA that has made this achievement possible.
The successful demonstration was only possible through the collaboration of key industry players. By working together, we can push the boundaries of maritime technology and provide solutions that ensure safer and more efficient maritime communication. The demo was organized by Sternula, AIVeNautics/DMC, and Albatros-Tech, using MMS and VDES solutions from these companies and SaabTransponderTech.
